Reversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase-1 and 2 COX-1 and 2 enzymes, which results in decreased formation of prostaglandin precursors; has antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Hepatic to several hydroxylated metabolites and etodolac glucuronide; hydroxylated metabolites undergo further glucuronidation.

Etodolac (Generic) Tablets, 400-mg, 1 tablet

Etodolac 200 mg 70 mg within 2 weeks; Maximum effect: Relief of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile arthritis ER only. Hypersensitivity to etodolac, or any component of the formulation; history of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAID agents; use in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft CABG surgery.

Additional contraindications not in US labeling: Active peptic ulcer; inflammatory diseases of the GI tract. Refer to adult dosing, use with caution.

The elderly are etodolac 200 sensitive to antiprostaglandin effects and may need dosage adjustments. Avoid use in patients with advanced renal disease unless benefits etodolac 200 expected to outweigh risk of etodolac 200 renal function. Temporarily discontinue in patients with intercurrent disease that etodolac 200 risk of acute kidney injury. No dosage adjustment necessary. However, reduced doses may be required due to extensive hepatic metabolism.

Monitor renal function periodically in patients receiving aliskiren and any nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent. Patients at elevated risk of renal dysfunction include those who are elderly, are volume depleted, or have pre-existing renal dysfunction.

Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Agents may decrease the excretion of Aminoglycosides. Data only in premature infants. Photosensitizing Agents may enhance the photosensitizing effect of Aminolevulinic Acid Systemic. Photosensitizing Agents may enhance the etodolac 200 effect of Aminolevulinic Acid Topical. Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers: Specifically, the etodolac 200 mg 70 mg may result in a significant decrease in renal function.
